Anna Kournikova, born on June 7, 1981 in Moscow, is a Russian professional tennis player and a model. Her tennis career started when she was eight and was trained professionally by a prominent Russian tennis school. After her talent attracted a lot of attention she moved to Florida to further develop her skills.
She was the youngest player to represent Russia in the Fed Cup and was one of the youngest to participate in Olympic Games. She successfully participated in several tournaments, knocking out many of the favorites and reaching quarters and semis with an astonishing regularity. Her breakthrough came when she broke top 20 by beating such established players Lindsay Davonport, Monica Seles, Steffi Graf and Martina Hingis. She was also the youngest player to reach Wimbledon semi-finals.
Over the following few years, she was plagued by injuries unable to replicate the successes of her early career, however came back strong to earn her first grand-slam title in winning Australian Open in doubles. She again went to play the semi-final doubles of Wimbledon, but was dismissed by the Williams Sisters.
Besides her tennis career, she is also famous for her personal life drama. She dated such hockey players as Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Bure, and later had a long-term relationship with Enrique Iglesias appearing in several of his music videos, a famous Spanish singer. She was also featured in numerous men’s magazines, including a cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, as well as editorials in FHM and Maxim. She has been voted in to the People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People list and placed within FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World. It’s noteworthy that she’s also widely considered to be the most overrated athlete of all time and is a prominent member of “25 Biggest Sports Flops” list.
